The heading for Nehemiah 9 says, "The People Confess Their Sins." They were mourning over their sins as if someone had died. Confessing sin and repenting is seen over and over and over again in scripture. People cried, Rescue me God, whatever it takes.

Nehemiah works to rebuild the walls, and Ezra works to rebuild the temple. When Ezra brought out the Book of the Law and began to read it was water to their dry and weary souls. They had forgotten who they were they people of God. And it was time to remind them.

From day one, enemies of Nehemiah talked about him and the other Jews who were rebuilding the wall with the intend of bringing the work to a stop. Every time the enemy fought against Nehemiah he continued the work.

They've started rebuilding the wall when Nehemiah takes a break to deal with something important. The people were being taken advantage of and they were hungry. What can we do to help our fellow Christians who are physically hungry? Because doing nothing isn't an option.

God doesn't call us to easy stuff. The enemy looked at the poor, weak, feeble Jews were called to do something they were to capable of in their own strength. But they stood together, protecting each other and building the wall anyway. And that was the point.
